Black History Month Trivia @ Agincourt Road PS

This year for Black History Month, students will be able to compete in a trivia contest. A few times a week on the announcements there will be a fact shared about a Black Canadian. If you think you know who it is, please use the google form that will be on the announcements to submit your answer. At the end of the week we will draw some names to win a prize. 

February 3rd Question - I was the first Black Canadian MP in the House of Commons as well as the first Black federal Cabinet Minister - Who am I? 

February 5th Question - I refused to leave the whites only area of a movie theatre in Nova Scotia. I fought racial segregation in Nova Scotia. Who Am I?

February 10th Question - I was the first Black player in the NHL. Who Am I?

February 12th Question - I was the first Black Canadian concert singer to achieve international fame. Who Am I?

February 18th Question - I co-founded The Clarion which was one of the first Black owned and published newspapers in Canada. Who Am I?

February 20th Question - I am  household name said with pride amongst, not only the soccer world, but the Liberian, Ghanian, Canadian, Edmontonian, and ECSD communities. His reign of success continued as he went from Vancouver to Munich, when he signed with Bayern Munich. His UEFA Champions League start came soon after and, currently, he is signed with Bayern Munich until the end of the 2025 season. I am the first Canadian male international to win the Champions League.

February 24th Question - This brother and sister duo are sports stars. One, a Canadian-born WNBA point guard for the New York Liberty, is a former standout player for UConn and Olympian. The other is a defenseman and alternate captain for the Edmonton Oilers, drafted in 2013 after playing for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. He's also represented Canada internationally.

February 26th Question - This Canadian is a highly decorated Canadian sprinter who has achieved significant success at the Olympic Games. He has won a gold medal in the 200m, two silver medals and three bronze medals His recent gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the 2024 Summer Olympics tied him with swimmer Penny Oleksiak as Canada's most decorated Olympians of all time.
